Mar Tue 2024
A spring tea promotion activity was held in Chaye Street of Guzhang County, Xiangxi Prefecture on March 22.

At the event, guests and merchants watched tea art performances, and visited specialty tea shops and popular attractions, in a bid to further experience the charm and characteristics of the Guzhang tea market, tea culture and Miao folk culture.

It is a peak period for tea trading in Guzhang County from March to May. To facilitate tea farmers, enterprises and merchants to conduct centralized trading of tea, a temporary trading market in Chaye Street was set up with 28 stalls.

The stalls are decorated with pendants, providing a visual representation of Guzhang ethnic culture and tea culture, creating a fairer and more orderly trading environment for tea traders and farmers.

Tea has always been an important pillar industry in Guzhang County and a shining landmark brand of Guzhang County.

In recent years, the local government has taken the tea industry as an important way to enrich the people and strengthen the county, and to promote rural revitalization.

In 2023, the county planted 205,000 mu (about 13,667 hectares) of tea, including 140,000 mu (about 9,333 hectares) which could be harvested. The total tea production for the year was 13,700 tons, and the production value reached over 1.815 billion yuan, an increase of 10.6% and 12.2% respectively.

Industrial revitalization is vital for rural revitalization. The county has two national GI products, namely Guzhang Maojian Tea and Guzhang Black Tea. Villagers have fattened their wallets through the tea industry.
